Sao é uma cozinheira talentosa que trabalha como empregada de mesa num restaurante de Banguecoque e tenta reconstruir a vida depois de um passado traumático. Quando reencontra inesperadamente o homem que a abusou física e mentalmente, decide transformar aquilo que melhor sabe fazer – cozinhar – numa arma de vingança. O plano começa a tomar forma entre cozinhas, restaurantes e refeições cuidadosamente preparadas, mas quanto mais Sao se aproxima do seu objectivo, mais difícil se torna distinguir justiça, obsessão e crueldade. Realizado por Pen-ek Ratanaruang, “Morte Cucina" é um gastro-thriller, onde a violência raramente precisa de levantar a voz para ser sentida. Com Tadanobu Asano no elenco e Christopher Doyle na fotografia, o filme estreou na secção Culinary Zinema de San Sebastián. Uma refeição pode não parecer perigosa – até conhecermos o cozinheiro.
Sao is a talented cook working as a waitress in a Bangkok restaurant, trying to rebuild her life after a traumatic past. When she unexpectedly comes across the man who exploited her, she decides to turn what she does best — cooking — into a weapon of revenge. Her plan begins to take shape amid kitchens, restaurants and carefully prepared meals, but the closer Sao gets to her target, the harder it becomes to distinguish justice from obsession and cruelty. Directed by Pen-ek Ratanaruang, “Morte Cucina” is a slow-burn culinary thriller in which violence rarely needs to raise its voice to be felt. Featuring Tadanobu Asano and cinematography by Christopher Doyle, the film premiered in the Culinary Zinema section of San Sebastián and screened in competition in Tokyo. A meal may not seem dangerous — until you meet the cook.
