Walter Paisley, um desastrado empregado de um café frequentado por artistas e boémios, sonha ser aceite naquele meio e conquistar a bela Carla. Um acidente leva-o a cobrir o cadáver de um gato com gesso, criando inadvertidamente uma escultura que é aclamada como uma obra-prima. Seduzido pelo reconhecimento, Walter decide produzir novas “obras”, mergulhando numa espiral de homicídio. Escrito em apenas cinco dias e filmado noutros cinco, o filme reinventa “Mystery of the Wax Museum” numa mordaz crítica ao elitismo artístico, permanecendo como um dos mais brilhantes exemplares do humor de Corman.

An accident leads him to cover a dead cat in plaster, inadvertently creating a sculpture that is hailed as a masterpiece. Seduced by the recognition, Walter decides to produce new “works”, plunging into a spiral of murder. Written in just five days and shot in another five, the film reinvents “Mystery of the Wax Museum” as a biting critique of artistic elitism, remaining one of the most brilliant examples of Corman’s dark humour.
